This service centers around music, sharing God's story, and the weekly celebration of Holy Communion. We hope the worship will transmit a sense of sacredness and holy ritual surrounded by a spirit of freedom, flexibility, and joy. The music is an eclectic and surprising mix of styles and expressions led by our Music Director, Billy McLaughlin. 

Billy is a nationally and internationally known singer, composer and an innovative acoustic guitarist. He is a highly acclaimed recording artist with best selling albums and Billboard Top Ten experience. He is a four?time Minnesota Music Award winner; not bad for a kid who started playing his guitar in church in South Minneapolis! He went to Washburn High School and then graduated with honors from the University of Southern California's prestigious School of Music. He has been named the National Association for Campus Activities' "Entertainer of the Year" three times on the strength of relentless national touring for more than a decade. Now he is enjoying a renaissance of life closer to home, raising his two boys in his in White Bear Lake home. 

A homecoming in more than one way, Billy McLaughlin has returned to his roots by accepting the position of Music Director for St. Stephen's 11:00 worship. Billy writes, "I will continue my ministry in the streets, colleges, and concert halls, as I had originally intended, but only on an occasional basis. I get to add something to my life that has been missing for a long time, a place to call "home" every Sunday and a congregation that I can actually get to know. Thanks to all of you for giving me this opportunity!"
