Fort Totten, North Dakota

In June of 2007 and again in July of 2008, members of St. Stephen traveled to the Spirit Lake National Indian Reservation near Devil's Lake, ND.

While on these trips, we learned about Native American culture and their many traditions.   We were weclomed at the Dacotah Oyate Lutheran Church (ELCA) and attended a Pow Wow.   We toured the historic fort in the city of Fort Totten and ran a bike clinic giving away 20 donated bicycles.

We got to know some of the people of the Spirit Lake Nation and we learned about life on the reservation.   We plan to continue to explore ways we can work together with the people of the Spirit Lake tribe.
