Confirmation
Confirmation is an important milestone and an opportunity for youth tolearn, study and ask questions about faith while becoming part of a community and making the choice to affirm what their parents put in motion when they were baptized as a child.
At St. Stephen, students in grades 6 through 8 take part in a three year curriculum called "Here We Stand - Confirmation". In their first year, our 6th graders focus on the Bible. In the second year, our 7th graders focus on the Small Catechism and the the third year, our 8th graders focus on Living in Faith. Confirmation classes are led by our Youth Director, Sarah Maslowski, pastors, parent volunteers and small group leaders.
Confirmation or the Rite/Affirmation of Baptism takes place on Reformation Sunday the fall of the freshman (9th grade) year. The confirmation class plans the service, create their own stoles and enjoy celebrating with family. There is also a banquet the night before the celebration. THe 9th Graders will celebrate confirmation on Sunday, October 24th.
We ask that all 6th, 7th and 8th Graders complete the 2010 Confirmation Registration Form.
The Confirmation format is:
6:00 - 6:15 pm Open with singing and lesson introduction in the Youth Room
6:15 - 7:00 pm Break into small groups for lesson activity and discussion
7:00 - 7:30 Games in the Gym -OR-
7:00 - 8:30 pm Jubilation Choir (6th - 12th grade, optional)
Volunteer Opportunity - The Confirmation program relies on parent involvement and volunteers to be small-group leaders. Each small group will have 7-8 kids. The weekly curriculum, leader guides and activities are all provided for you - biblical background information is also included. You do not need to be a parent of a confirmand to enjoy this volunteers opportunity. If you are interested in building positive relationships with the youth at St. Stephen, this is an opportunity for you. Contact Sarah Maslowski if you would like more information on volunteer opportunities and Wednesday Night Activities.
